Interior Painting
When planning indoor painting projects, the quality of the paint and the durability of the coatings being used is only one of the factors involved. Facility managers must stay informed of the changes in the latest generations of paints and application methods necessary to minimize interference with the everyday operations of the facility. By using low pollution paint, and responsible methods, the disruption to the staff and to the day-to-day work routine is minimal. Indoor air quality is not compromised by the need to re-decorate or maintain the facility. In addition, employees sensitive to paint fumes are not affected by all the painting going on.
Colour can also be used as a powerful tool for designing a productive work environment. Planned right, the correct choices can maximize productivity, enhance employee creativity and even reduce stress and fatigue. There are actual physiological changes taking place in humans when exposed to colours for long periods of time.
The Interior Painting Process
Preparation
- Furniture or smaller items will be removed from the area. Furniture that remains in the area (heavy or awkward pieces etc.) will be covered with plastic, or clean drop cloths to protect them from dust or paint.
- Floors are protected with painter's quality drop cloths.
- Hardware such as doorknobs, electrical switch and outlet covers get removed or masked as required. Thermostats are covered with masking tape.
- Flaking paint is scraped and sanded. Holes and cracks are patched with spackle.
- Cracks in corners, baseboards and moldings are caulked with acrylic caulking as needed. All patched areas are sanded with fine grit sandpaper and spot-primed.
Painting
- Quality paint is applied carefully by strictly following the manufacturer's recommendations. One, two or more coats are applied as necessary, with sufficient drying time in between coats.
- Throughout the painting process, sufficient ventilation is used.
Clean-up
- Masking tape and drop cloths are removed, floors are swept or vacuumed, and furniture and hardware is carefully placed back. All garbage, tools and equipment are removed at this point.
Inspection
- After our painters carefully inspect the painted area for any imperfections, the customer is invited to check the area with the project manager. After the customer is satisfied with the work, a completion and feedback form is filled and signed.
